Battlefield Radio

What you hear while you play Wardogs, Squad, Arma and Battlefield: who wrote it, how it was released, and which tracks are worth looking up. Four games, four very different ideas of what a war should sound like.

Wardogs

Vehicle tapes

Wardogs handles music as a cosmetic. Players buy Music Tapes and play them in vehicles, so the soundtrack is whatever your driver loaded. The wiki lists the tape for "Giants (Remix)" at 100 cash, available from the start.

Format
Cosmetic item, played in vehicles
Mix
Pop, electronic and classical, from a wide range of artists
Tapes listed
12 entries (the Qemists and Masha Kondratenko tracks each appear under two spellings)

I found no separately credited original score for Wardogs, so this page covers the tape catalogue only. Season 2 content may add more.

Squad

Original score

Squad's music is the work of one person, Scott Tobin. Volume 1 followed the game's early history, and Tobin has named Brian Eno as an influence. The result is slow, atmospheric and built to sit under long rounds without competing with comms.

Scott Tobin
Volume 1
10 tracks, 45 minutes, includes the early-release main theme and an instrumental of "Lost Squad"
Vol. 1 & 2
29 tracks, 85 minutes

Battlefield

Theme plus radio

One melody ties the series together. Joel Eriksson wrote the main theme for Battlefield 1942, and nearly every game since has reworked it. Battlefield 2042 broke it apart; Battlefield 6 returned to a heavier, more orchestral treatment and added a licensed vehicle radio.

BF3, BF4
Johan Skugge & Jukka Rintamäki
BF1, BFV
Johan Söderqvist & Patrik Andrén
BF 2042
Hildur Guðnadóttir & Sam Slater
BF6
Henry Jackman. 23 tracks, released 10 Oct 2025, plus two Limp Bizkit tracks

Guðnadóttir and Slater built their 2042 theme around a homemade instrument called the "power plank". For BF6, Jackman and Limp Bizkit also made "Battlefield: The After-Party", a rework of the theme.
